Vegiterraneo is a three-year European information and promotion programme, co-funded by the European Union under Regulation (EU) 1144/2014. European Union under Regulation (EU) 1144/2014. The campaign aims to increase the recognition and consumption of European vegetables in Bulgaria, Romania and Poland, while encouraging consumers to include more fruit and vegetables in their daily diet.
The campaign is implemented by eight agricultural cooperatives from Crete, Greece, a region internationally recognized for its ideal climate, fertile land and long agricultural tradition. Through sustainable cultivation practices and strict quality standards, the participating producers deliver vegetables with exceptional taste, quality and freshness.
Built around the quality, freshness and authenticity of European vegetables, the campaign highlights products that are produced, certified, packaged and distributed in accordance with the strict food safety regulations of the European Union. In this way, European vegetables offer consumers safe, reliable and high-quality choices.
In Mediterranean countries, favourable climate conditions support the natural production of vegetables with excellent quality and high nutritional value. This is further reinforced by certified quality assurance systems and sustainable practices applied by European producers, contributing to environmental protection and the long-term sustainability of local communities.
At the same time, Vegiterraneo responds to an important nutritional need. In 2023, EU citizens consumed an average of 351 grams of fruit and vegetables per day, below the World Health Organization recommendation of 400 grams per day, or approximately five portions. (read more here)
